World Surf League hails Globosat rights deal

Brazilian pay-television broadcaster Globosat has signed a multi-year partnership to show events from the World Surf League.

Brazil’s Gabriel Medina won the men’s WSL title last year to increase interest in the championship in his homeland.

Paul Speaker, World Surf League chief executive, said: “Being able to partner with Globosat, exposing such a large audience to professional surfing, represents a major step for both our sport and our company and is further illustrative of the tremendous momentum the WSL is experiencing.”

The WSL arrives in Brazil next month, with events on the Men’s Championship Tour and Women’s Championship Tour running alongside one another in Rio de Janeiro from May 11-22.
