World Twenty20 set to smash ICC viewing records

A cumulative audience of up to 1.5 billion viewers worldwide will watch the upcoming International Cricket Council World Twenty20 cricket tournament in Sri Lanka, according to pan-Asian broadcaster ESPN Star Sports, the ICC world governing body’s global rights distribution partner.

ESPN Star Sports, which is also the event’s host broadcaster, said that coverage would be available in 226 territories worldwide and added that viewing figures were likely to break records for an ICC event.

ESPN Star Sports, which produced coverage of the ICC Cricket World Cup last year, has recruited a 16-man commentary team for the coverage and will produce the coverage in high definition.

“We believe that this event is an excellent way of attracting new audiences to the game worldwide, and hope that our production and commentary teams will ensure the best possible experience for viewers across six continents,” ESPN Star Sports’ managing director, Peter Hutton, said.

The tournament will run from September 18 to October 7.
