Cameroonian investment company Medicam has said it has been given the go-ahead from the government to launch what it claims will be the country’s first dedicated sports television channel.
AfroSport TV has been backed by Cameroon’s ministry of communications, with Medicam stating it will be an African, European and Middle East-focused sports network.
Medicam said it has already secured carriage agreements with cable television operators TV Cam and SWE Cable, adding it is in talks with a further 12 companies.
Jules Njawe, chief operating officer of Medicam, said: “Our network will focus on Cameroon and their athletic achievements and day to day news on Cameroon, European and African sports events. The company has acquired state of the art TV equipment to produce live broadcasts in high definition in both French and English.”
