Cyril Linette, the director of sports at Canal Plus, has said that the French pay-television broadcaster is not interested in acquiring rights for the French Open tennis tournament.
“It is a very nice product but at Canal Plus we prefer dramas that take place over a season,” he told news website En Pleine Lucarne. “It is therefore not (consistent with) our model.”
The French Tennis Federation, which operates the tournament, is expected to launch a tender for the next cycle of domestic rights in September.
The rights on offer are expected to cover four editions of the competition, from 2014-17. Public-service broadcaster France Télévisions held the rights in a four-year deal from 2010-13.
