Latin American media platform Claro Sports has joined forces with Spanish sports media group Marca in a venture that aims to create the “benchmark” for digital sports coverage in Latin America.
The editorial alliance has created Marca Claro with the venture opening up with the creation of www.marcaclaro.com in Mexico.
Further market-specific sites will launch throughout 2017, including in Brazil and Colombia, with Claro Sports and Marca intending to develop localised sports video content, along with news coverage.
The two parties said the Mexican venture will have a focus on the top division of domestic football, Liga MX, along with other international sports leagues and competitions which have Mexican participation. Marca Claro will also provide a multiscreen app for connected devices.
The platform will have specific sections for domestic and overseas football and motor racing, along with properties popular in the Americas such as the NBA basketball league, Major League Baseball, the NFL American football league, ice hockey league the NHL and mixed martial arts promotion the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Juan Ignacio Gallardo, Marca director, described the partnership as a “formidable leap” for both companies, adding it is a “world-class alliance of substance”.
