The Fox International Channels broadcast subsidiary of media company 21st Century Fox has agreed a deal to acquire pay-television sports broadcaster Setanta Africa, which operates in the sub-Saharan region of the continent.
The Rapid TV News website said the deal will allow FIC to take control of the Setanta Africa, Zuku Sports and Setanta Action channels.
The channels are distributed on a variety of direct-to-home, digital terrestrial television and free-to-air broadcast platforms.
The agreement is subject to approval by the Irish Competition Authority in the homeland of Setanta Africa’s parent company Setanta Sports.
Michael O'Rourke, chairman of Setanta Africa, said: “The channels will have a very exciting future in the hands of such an experienced and passionate sports operator.”
