The Macquarie Capital investment bank has been hired by the Australian Football League to assist in negotiations for the next cycle of domestic media rights for the top division of Aussie rules.
The Australian Financial Review said that Macquarie would work with the AFL on “number crunching and market analysis,” but the league would retain its lead role in negotiations.
The AFL will begin talks in the coming months over a new five-year rights cycle, from 2017 to 2021.
The league currently has five-year deals with commercial broadcaster Seven, pay-television operator Foxtel and telecommunications company Telstra through to the end of 2016.
