South African public-service broadcaster SABC has acquired free-to-air rights to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Under the terms of the deal, SABC will broadcast at least 100 hours of conventional coverage from this year’s edition of the multi-sport event, with extensive news and highlights also appearing on its SABC 2 channel.
In May 2013, pay-television sports broadcaster SuperSport secured the broadcast rights to Glasgow 2014 in the sub-Saharan region. SuperSport’s distribution reaches all 19 African Commonwealth nations and territories which will be competing at this summer’s Games in the Scottish city.
SABC has broadcast the past three editions of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Melbourne and Manchester, respectively.
