Australian media and content creation company Seven West Media, which controls commercial broadcaster Seven, has acquired a 33 per cent stake in daily fantasy start-up Draftstars.
Seven West Media will join pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports and betting firm CrownBet in the joint venture, which is the official daily fantasy sports partner of Aussie rules football league the AFL.
In addition to its 33 per cent stake, Seven West Media will provide media support, product development and investment to further drive brand awareness and usage in an integrated media campaign across all of Seven’s leading content brands.
Clive Dickens, Seven West Media’s chief digital officer, said: “Seven West Media is constantly looking at ways in which we can engage our large sports audiences on mobile. Draftstars will soon launch EPL (English Premier League) and cricket to complement its existing range of highly-engaging contests across AFL, NRL, NFL and NBA.
“It is a highly scalable, mobile product and platform that is backed by powerful partners, each of which provide strong competitive advantages.”
Draftstars was founded in March by CrownBet and Fox Sports.
