Australian commercial broadcaster Seven Network has reached a deal to broadcast the 2013-14 Hopman Cup, an annual national team tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation.
Seven will broadcast the tournament on its digital-terrestrial channel 7mate, with the option of marquee matches to be televised live on its main channel.
The Hopman Cup joins the Australian Open on Seven’s tennis roster and it will be the first time every session of the event is broadcast live on national free-to-air television.
News of the deal comes after Seven’s fellow commercial broadcaster Ten last week announced it would not renew its coverage of an event it had carried since 2011.
The forthcoming edition of the Hopman Cup takes place in Perth from December 28 to January 4.
