A new dedicated sports television channel is set to launch later this year in Cambodia.
Cambodia Sports Television (CSTV) will be piloted online and the decision has been taken as the country prepares to host the 2023 edition of the Southeast Asian Games multi-sport event in Phnom Penh.
Vat Chamroeun, Tourism Secretary of State and secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), said that such a channel is needed to ensure that the SEA Games receive the necessary coverage. CSTV will be operated by the NOCC.
The NOCC will train the necessary people to ensure that CSTV can deliver high-quality broadcasts, Cambodian news agency AKP reports. It is hoped the channel will begin broadcasting by the end of 2020.
Hang Meas HDTV, the free-to-air terrestrial channel, held rights to the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which were held in the Philippines.
