Pay-television broadcaster beIN Sports has sublicensed a package of rights for the upcoming handball men’s World Championship, which will take place in France from January 11-29, to French commercial broadcaster TF1.
If France qualifies for the latter stages of the event, TF1 will broadcast the quarter-finals and semi-finals. TF1 will also televise the tournament’s final on January 29, regardless of whether France is participating.
BeIN Sports, which acquired global rights covering the 2015 and 2017 championships, is legally obliged to offer the final of the tournament to free-to-air broadcasters if the game features France.
However, it emerged earlier this week that beIN Sports had also offered, in a separate package, one quarter-final and one semi-final, if France reaches those stages of the tournament.
