Canadian pay-television sports broadcaster TSN is to expand its service from two to five national channels.
The new feeds will be branded TSN1, TSN2, TSN3, TSN4 and TSN5. All TSN feeds will also be available to subscribers online and through mobile devices via the broadcaster’s TSN Go live streaming service.
Stewart Johnston, president of TSN, said: “With five national channels as our new canvas, we now have the flexibility to fully leverage our immense portfolio of premium sports programming – we've had the content, but not the capacity, and now we do. With this expansion, we are increasing our lineup of live events and in-house productions, while acquiring even more new content.”
The new channels will feature additional live game coverage from various North American sports events including the NBA basketball league and Major League Soccer.
The TSN channels will also broadcast more coverage of marquee events including the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup national football tournament, which will take place in Canada next year.
Subscribers will also be able to access more choice of games and events taking place at the same time. This will include matches from the English Premier League club football competition and various grand slam tennis events.
The TSN feeds will also carry more college sports programming, news and studio shows from sports broadcaster ESPN.
Subscribers will have access to more games from the North American NHL ice hockey tournament and additional coverage of Canadian teams. This will include 26 Toronto Maple Leafs games and 52 Ottawa Senators matches in addition to pre-season games.
Further information about participating television service providers and channel placements will be announced in due course.
