Extensive live coverage of Czech football’s knockout clubs competition is moving away from public-service broadcaster Česká Televize to pay-television broadcaster O2 TV in a landmark five-season agreement.

Having secured an increase of around two-and-a-half times in domestic broadcast and betting rights, the Czech league football association has gone to market with its international broadcast and betting video rights from 2024-25 to 2028-29.

The initial burst of deals across Europe are the first to be announced for the new cycle, and also the first major deals agreed by the DFB since it took DFB-Pokal rights back in house.

Italy’s Lega Serie A last week announced new deals for its club-competition rights covering a host of markets.

The Pragosport agency last month extended its deal for global rights to the Czech First League – the Czech Republic’s top-tier football league – and immediately secured a domestic deal with pay-television broadcaster O2 for rights in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

After almost an entire season without Bundesliga coverage in the Czech Republic – and limited coverage in Slovakia – the Pragosport agency has this month struck a deal covering both territories.

The MP & Silva and Pragosport agencies are struggling to sell German Bundesliga rights in their respective European territories, leaving the league without a broadcast partner in a number of markets.

The Pragosport agency is understood to have broken even on its deal for the Czech football league following two broadcast deals it agreed at the end of last month.

The Pragosport agency has awarded rights for the Synot Liga, the newly-named top tier of football in Czech Republic, to public-service broadcaster Czech Television and pay-television broadcaster Slovak Sport.
