A national backlash against a government move to take matches of the Argentinian national football team off state television has prompted sub-licensing negotiations between broadcast executives.

Televisión Federal (Telefe), the Argentinian television station owned by Paramount Global, has acquired rights to matches of the men's national football team after the country's radical leader, Javier Milei, put an end to the use of public funds.

Argentinian club football will return to free-to-air television for the first time since June 2017 after public-service broadcaster TV Pública agreed a sublicensing deal with media group Disney.
