AFL seals rights deals for new women’s league

Australian pay-television operator Foxtel and commercial broadcaster Seven have acquired rights for the newly-formed AFL Women’s Aussie rules football competition.

Foxtel will broadcast every game live during the inaugural 2017 season, which begins on February 3 with a game between Carlton and Collingwood.

Select games will be broadcast on Seven, including the season-opener and the Grand Final on March 25.

The AFL.com.au website said that Foxtel and Seven have not paid rights fees for the coverage, but both broadcasters will underwrite the production costs for AFLW’s inaugural season.

All games will also be available live via the official AFL app and AFL.com.au.
