The Australian Football League, the country’s top Aussie rules championship, is set to trial up to three primetime Sunday night games on commercial broadcaster Seven during the 2014 season, according to The Age newspaper.
The move means next season will feature 7.40pm games on five of the seven week nights from Thursday until Monday, with the Sunday night fixture viewed by the league as a long-term prospect in preference to Monday night games.
The AFL is said to look upon Sunday night games as an attractive proposition given the current lack of quality free-to-air programming on what has traditionally been a strong ratings evening.
It is believed that at least two of Seven’s Sunday afternoon games will be switched, with the AFL’s new season schedule due to be revealed on Thursday.
