Egyptian top-tier Premier League football club Al-Ahly has sold its media rights to the Future Media and Telecommunications Company.
The media company acquired the rights covering the 2013-14 season for LE41m (€4.3m/$5.8m), outbidding media companies Presentation and El-Nahar.
The tender, which was announced by club president Hassan Hamdy last week, was reportedly expected to generate a rights fee of about LE35m.
Hamdy also reiterated that Al-Ahly had not threatened to withdraw from the country’s top tier after amid a dispute over the league’s rights deal with state-run broadcaster Egyptian Television Network.
The club refused to be part of the league’s collective rights deal worth LE70m for the 2013-14 season, opting instead to sell its rights on an individual basis.
