The Alisports division of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has acquired rights for the upcoming 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo and Obihiro, Japan.
Alisports has acquired exclusive new media rights for the event in China.
The deal was agreed with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), operator of the Games, which will run from February 19-26.
Coverage of the event will also be available in China on state-run broadcaster CCTV.
Alisports said that it is “seeking” further co-operation with the OCA over the next five years and noted that the 2022 Asian Games will take place in Hangzhou, China – in what it described as “Alibaba’s home.”
