Australian broadcasters are preparing fresh budgets ahead of a possible ban on gambling advertising during live sports coverage, according to ABC.
The ban, which would apply to free-to-air and pay-television broadcasters, is expected to be presented to cabinet next week, just days ahead of the federal budget, the Australian newspaper added.
The government has not commented on the reports.
According to ABC, cabinet is expected to limit the times when gambling advertising can be shown, but the AFL Australian rules league and the NRL rugby league competition are set to challenge the ban, arguing that the move would damage grassroots investment in sport.
