Specialist boxing pay-television channel BoxNation has acquired the UK rights to the heavily-anticipated fight between Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez, which will take place in Las Vegas on September 16.
UK newspaper the Daily Mail said BoxNation edged out pay-television broadcaster Sky for the rights to the fight, signing a deal with Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Mexican superstar Alvarez.
The Mail added that BoxNation will launch its new pay-per-view platform for what has been touted as the fight of the year and potentially the richest since Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fought in 2015.
In November, BoxNation signed a multi-year partnership with UK telecommunications company BT, parent firm of BT Sport.
Boxing promoter and chairman of BoxNation, Frank Warren, will promote 20 premium live boxing events a year that will be simulcast on BT’s pay-television broadcaster BT Sport and BoxNation. The deal will lead to a further 10 events per year, including top tier pay-per-view events, broadcast exclusively on BoxNation.
