BoxNation plans for future with major announcements

UK pay-television channel BoxNation has secured the exclusive rights to Floyd Mayweather Junior’s fight against Saul Alvarez on September 14, announced a number of partnerships with promoters and revealed it is close to selling a “major shareholding” in the company.

BoxNation has acquired the live and exclusive rights in the UK to the super-middleweight title bout in Las Vegas, US.

After recent deals with Frank Maloney Promotions, Barry McGuigan's Cyclone Promotions and Khan Promotions, BoxNation has also announced that Ricky Hatton, of Hatton Promotions, has reached a co-promotional deal with Frank Warren, who has a seat on the board of BoxNation, for his stable of fighters to appear exclusively on the channel. As part of the deal, Warren and Hatton will co-promote events on a regular basis.

BoxNation said it was in final negotiations with Bill Ives, chairman of the Rainham Steel company, to acquire a major shareholding in the channel. The channel said that the proposed transaction would provide “further stability and financial resource” to continue growth plans.

In a further development, BoxNation said it will launch a high-definition service later this year.
