Broadcasters bid to retain Coupe de France rights

Public-service broadcaster France Télévisions and the Eurosport France channel have lodged a joint bid to retain rights to the Coupe de France football club knockout tournament.

According to French newspaper L’Équipe, the bid is valued at more than €20m ($21.8m) per season over four seasons, from 2018-19 to 2021-22. The two parties currently pay a total of €17m per season for the rights over four seasons, from 2014-15 to 2017-18.

The newspaper added that media company Altice does not appear to be interested in bidding for the rights, but pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus has expressed an interest in bidding, even though no formal offer has been made yet.

The French football federation, the Fédération Française de Football, launched the sales process in January. The federation is expected to award the rights in April.
