Telecommunications company Cable & Wireless has agreed a multi-year regional partnership with English Premier League football club Manchester United, under which its pay-television platform Flow will become the exclusive distributor of the team’s in-house television channel MUTV in the Caribbean.
The agreement for MUTV takes effect from the 2016-17 season. Under the wide-ranging partnership the two parties will also seek to develop football within the region by hosting Manchester United Soccer School competitions and coaching programmes within local communities.
Cable & Wireless and Flow will also use the partnership to provide the club’s Caribbean fans opportunities to win match tickets and signed merchandise, as well as the chance to interact with United legends and ambassadors.
President of the Cable & Wireless consumer group, John Reid, said: “Our aim is to become the home of sports in the Caribbean and there is no better way to demonstrate our ambition than by partnering with one of the biggest sports brands in the world.
“Our agreement with Manchester United is the latest in a series of strategic partnerships that already includes the Premier League and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and further demonstrates our commitment to delivering the region’s best sports content to Flow customers.”
Flow Sports, the new Caribbean pay-television channel owned by Cable & Wireless, commenced operations last month, providing the region with its first Caribbean-based high-definition sports network.
The new channel is available in Flow’s Basic TV package and broadcasts in Antigua, Barbados, the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Curaçao, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Vincent, St. Lucia and Trinidad.
