Cambodian free-to-air broadcaster CTN has acquired the exclusive free-to-air and pay-television rights to the 2014 Fifa World Cup football tournament, according to the Phnom Penh Post newspaper.
The company, owned by local conglomerate Royal Group and operated by Cambodian Broadcast Service, outbid other broadcasters to retain the World Cup rights following its broadcast of the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
CTN general manager Bernard Anthony said the value of the contract is “significantly higher” than for the previous World Cup, but would not disclose its precise cost.
The 2014 World Cup is set to be broadcast on both CTN and its sister channel MyTV. CTN will also broadcast other Fifa tournaments leading up to next year’s event in Brazil.
