French pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus has responded to competitive pressures in the market with another sharp temporary fee reduction for new subscribers to its digital services.
In a flash promotion on the Veepee website, which ended on Monday, the broadcaster offered a no-commitment €9.90 per month life-time subscription to a bundle comprising: Canal+, Canal+ Décalé, as well as MyCanal and LeKiosk services.
This bundle, which is available via smartphone or tablet, or on television via Chromecast or AppleAirplay, usually costs €19.90 per month.
Canal Plus offered a similar deal in May.
According to local media, Canal Plus has lost 167,000 subscribers in France since the start of 2019.
The country’s pay-television market is crowded with industry experts long-expecting some form consolidation. France has four major premium sports players: Canal Plus, beIN Sports, RMC Sport and Mediapro. Eurosport is also a significant participant in the French market and is carried exclusively on Canal Plus’ pay-television platform.
