Mexican football club Chivas Guadalajara plans to offer its in-house OTT platform, Chivas TV, on a global basis after sealing a partnership with streaming services provider Playmaker Media.
Playmaker, which is owned by the NBC Sports division of the NBC network in the US, will support live streaming of Chivas games, starting with a friendly match against Portuguese Primeira Liga club FC Porto in Guadalajara next Wednesday.
The partnership will cover all domestic Liga MX and Copa MX games, as well as under-20 and under-17 team matches. Chivas TV, which launched in 2016, also offers interviews and support programming.
“Chivas… will offer Chivas TV as a global direct-to-consumer product,” said a press release from NBC Sports.
In a surprise announcement in April, Chivas struck a rights deal for coverage of its home games through media group Televisa until the end of 2019, less than a year after opting to show its home matches exclusively through Chivas TV.
