Mexican Liga MX football club Club Deportivo Guadalajara has confirmed it will form its own broadcast platform after electing to end its long-running rights partnership with pay-television operator Televisa.
The club, commonly known as Chivas, has partnered with Televisa since 1994 but on Thursday said this relationship would end. On Saturday, Chivas confirmed plans for a new platform entitled Chivas TV in a brief statement on its website.
The statement read: “We have decided to be closer than ever to our fans. Welcome to a new era. Welcome to Chivas TV.”
Mexican newspaper El Universal said Chivas TV will exploit the rights to the club’s home games from the 2016 Apertura campaign of the Liga MX season.
Games will reportedly be live streamed and provided on an on-demand basis, with additional exclusive content being offered in the form of interviews and access to the changing room prior to matches.
