ITV, the UK free-to-air commercial broadcaster, has included a £23m (€26.9m/$32m) sports rights impairment charge in its full-year results as the effect of Covid-19 on the sporting calendar took hold.
The broadcaster attributed the impairment, which is included as an exceptional item charge in the accounts, to the pandemic’s impact on its sports programming schedule in 2020 and 2021, plus the knock-on impact on advertising revenues. It was also blamed on “changing forecasts of audience mix and revenues for certain sporting events”.
