Subscription OTT sports streaming platform DAZN has added another leading boxer to its portfolio in the US, after four-division world champion Mikey Garcia signed with the Matchroom Boxing USA agency.
The 32-year-old American’s deal with Matchroom means his next fight, scheduled for February 29 against an unspecified opponent, will be streamed exclusively live by DAZN.
Garcia’s initial one-bout deal with Matchroom comes after he worked on a fight-by-fight basis with Premier Boxing Champions following his exit from Top Rank Boxing. His purse for the DAZN debut is likely to be in the region of $7m (€6.3m), reports The Athletic.
In May 2018, DAZN (then Perform Group) announced an eight-year $1bn deal with Matchroom Boxing to stream top bouts to fans in the US market. In its deals with promoters Matchroom, Golden Boy and GGG, DAZN has already secured global streaming rights and then sold on rights in markets in which it is not yet active.
