DAZN, the OTT service operated by digital sports media company Perform, is set to expand into Canada, according to German media magazine W&V.
Citing industry sources, W&V said the launch of DAZN in Canada appears to be imminent, adding that it plans to expand into 12 other countries by 2020.
DAZN currently has a presence in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and Japan.
The operator secured two significant rights deals in its current markets last month. German pay-television broadcaster Sky renewed rights for the Uefa Champions League club football competition, and agreed a deal to sublicense coverage to DAZN across the 2018-19 to 2020-21 seasons.
DAZN also acquired exclusive rights in Japan to the Champions League and Europa League. The three-season deal runs across the 2018-19 to 2020-21 campaigns and also includes the Super Cup, the annual game between the victors of the previous season’s Champions League and Europa League.
The news of DAZN’s potential launch in Canada was first reported by TV Sports Markets on May 12.
