Chinese sports and entertainment company Wuhan DDMC Culture Co has agreed a deal to acquire Super Sports Media, which has media rights for football’s English Premier League in China.
The takeover has been valued at $500m (€437m), according to the Reuters news agency.
Super Sports Media, which has been showing coverage of the Premier League for the past seven years, has rights to the league through to the end of the 2018-19 season. Online streaming platform PPTV outbid Super Sports Media for the rights over the three seasons from 2019-20 to 2021-22.
DDMC will complete the takeover through its Hong Kong division.
Last month Suning Sports, a sister company of PPTV, formed a partnership with DDMC in order to strengthen its position in the sports-rights market.
