Caribbean telecommunications company Digicel has secured a five-year broadcast rights deal across more than 25 markets in the region for LaLiga, the top division of Spanish football.
Under the exclusive deal, LaLiga matches will be shown on Digicel’s SportsMax and SportsMax 2 television channels from the forthcoming 2015-16 season through until the 2019-20 campaign.
Under the deal brokered by the Mediapro agency, the SportsMax channels will also provide additional LaLiga programming, including a one-hour pre-season show dedicated to the upcoming season and three weekly magazine programmes; ‘La Liga’ each Sunday night, ‘La Liga World’ each Tuesday night and ‘La Liga Show’ each Thursday night.
Digicel said LaLiga is the second most watched football league in the Caribbean behind the English Premier League, which SportsMax also holds rights to.
Territories covered by the agreement are Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, St. Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Martin, St. Maarten, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Surinam, Trinidad & Tobago and Turks and Caicos.
Digicel SportsMax Caribbean marketing manager Tanya Lee said: “One of the comments we get from our subscribers is that while they enjoy the Barclays English Premier League and Uefa Champions League immensely, coverage of LaLiga has not been complete and consistent. Now we can commit to our viewers for the next five years top international football from Spain together with our broadcast of the most watched club football, the Barclays Premier League and the Uefa Champions League.”
