Pan-regional pay-television broadcaster DirecTV has acquired rights in Latin America to the 2016 edition of the Copa America national team football tournament.
DirecTV already holds rights to this year’s event, which will be held in Chile from June 11 to July 4.
It will now broadcast all 32 matches live from next year’s special edition Copa America Centenario. The tournament is designed to mark 100 years of the continental competition and will be held in the United States for the first time.
Director of sports programming for DirecTV Latin America, Guillermo Barreto, told the NexTV Latam website: “2016 is a big year for DirecTV Sports as we have three mega events – Copa America Centenario in the United States, European Championships in France, where DirecTV Sports has exclusive rights to half of the games, and the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. For Rio we will probably offer eight signals simultaneously live.”
