Disney to shut down 100 cable channels in streaming push

The Walt Disney Co. plans to close 100 of its international cable television channels this year as it continues to heavily emphasize its streaming operations in its long-term media strategy.

Following on the planned shuttering of Disney’s Fox Sports Asia pay-television channels, Disney chief executive Bob Chapek said at JPMorgan’s annual Global Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Conference that more such moves are coming for the company.
