Irish telecommunications company Eir has extended a rights deal for the Formula One motor-racing world championship and rebranded pay-television service Setanta Sports as Eir Sport.
Eir will provide live coverage of every F1 race plus practice and qualifying sessions through to 2018 under the deal with Formula One Management.
Eir also confirmed that it will provide extended coverage of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
A new six-channel Eir Sport Pack will be available for free to the telco’s broadband customers. The package will comprise Eir Sport 1, Eir Sport 2, BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport Europe and BT Sport ESPN.
Yesterday (Tuesday) Eir acquired rights for World Rugby tournaments, including the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
Eir acquired Setanta Sports in late 2015 for an undisclosed sum.
