Pan-European broadcaster Eurosport attracted a record average audience of 1.1 million viewers for its live coverage of the 2012 French Open tennis tournament.
The average audience represented a seven-per-cent increase on the average audience of 1.03 million it drew for the 2011 competition.
Eurosport said that a total of 61.2 million unique viewers watched the event, beating the broadcaster’s previous best figures of 56.7 million for the 2011 US Open.
Eurosport’s live coverage of the women’s final between Maria Sharapova and Sara Errani drew an average audience of 1.9 million viewers, marking the broadcaster’s best audience for the women’s title game since 1994.
The pan-European broadcaster also said that its ‘Game, Set and Mats’ daily magazine programme was watched by its largest average audience ever, at 21.5 million unique viewers, up from 18.7 million viewers last year.
