Sports broadcaster Eurosport has agreed a three-season extension to its rights deal in Romania for football’s English Premier League.
Under the new contract, Eurosport will broadcast matches exclusively to fans in Romania on television and online, via Eurosport Player, for the three seasons from 2016-17 to 2018-19.
Eurosport’s coverage will be supported by highlights, dedicated magazines and reruns.
Victoria Davies, vice-president and country manager in Central and Eastern Europe for Discovery Networks CEEMEA, said: “This deal with the Premier League, along with being awarded the exclusive multimedia rights for the Olympic Games from 2018 to 2024 and the extension of our agreement for the World Superbike Championship until 2019, confirms our commitment to become the go-to destination for sport fans.”
The Premier League’s Romanian contingent includes Watford goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon and Southampton defender Florin Gardoş.
TV Sports Markets broke news that Eurosport was in advanced negotiations over the rights with the IMG agency on February 5.
