F1’s social media platforms won’t show race action

Formula One Management (FOM), which operates the motor-racing series, will launch official channels on video-sharing service YouTube and social media website Facebook in the near future, but neither platform will show clips of races.

The series’ chief executive, Bernie Ecclestone denied that the websites would be used to show clips during a conference call.

FOM’s digital media manager, Marissa Pace, said that the platforms would provide behind-the-scenes content such as interviews, mirroring the series’ digital application.

“We are rebuilding Formula1.com and from Singapore onwards you may have noticed we have taken a more active role in social media so, starting with Twitter, we started in Singapore carrying on through to YouTube in the future and eventually Facebook when we get it past the legal team,” Pace said.
