FC Diez Media, the joint venture established by the IMG agency and digital media company Perform to advise the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) on their commercial rights for club competitions from 2019 to 2022, has launched a media rights tender for the Copa Sudamericana and Recopa tournaments.
The process runs through to June 6 and marks the first time Sudamericana rights have been made available through a tender and sold separately to the Copa Libertadores competition.
The tender is divided into two territories – Brazil and the rest of Latin America, which includes the other nine Conmebol countries in South America, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. There will be two available packages, offering first pick of ties with the final exclusively, and second pick of ties with exclusive rights to the Recopa, which features the winners of the Sudamericana and Libertadores.
FC Diez Media will continue to provide overall consultancy support to Conmebol during the agreed four-year period, which will cover the sale of global media rights, sponsorship and licensing, and consultancy on the growth and development of the competitions including digital strategy.
IMG and Perform created a dedicated team for FC Diez Media for the project, which is financed and resourced 50-50.
In September, Conmebol selected a consortium made up of IMG and Perform as its new partner for the commercialisation of its club competitions, stating that the offer was worth a guaranteed minimum of $1.4bn (€1.17bn).
Perform, together with IMG’s Trans World Sport division, was one of four bidders shortlisted by Conmebol, alongside Synergy Football, a joint venture between the Infront and Synergy Sport agencies; the MP & Silva agency; and Brazilian sports marketing agency Sport Promotion.
