FIA issues pit lane ban after Nurburgring incident

The Fédération International de l’Automobile, motorsport’s world governing body, has announced an immediate ban on members of the media being present in the pit lanes during Formula One races and qualifying sessions.

The decision to block anyone who is not an event marshal or team member being in the pit lane was made after an incident during last weekend’s German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring circuit, when British cameraman Paul Allen broke his collarbone. Allen was struck by a flying wheel that had come detached from the car of Red Bull driver Mark Webber.

Access for approved media will now be confined to the pit wall.
