Fox and Golden Boy agree long-term rights deal

The US Fox network agreed a multi-year deal with US-based boxing promoter Golden Boy Promotions for fights taking place in the US and Mexico.

The deal covers live rights to 44 fights in the first year of the contract and 36 per year thereafter.

Golden Boy boxing matches that take place in the US will be shown on Spanish-language pay-television channel Fox Deportes, Fox Sports regional networks, and cable channel Fuel TV. Fox will also hold the broadcast rights for the fights for Latin America, the Caribbean, sub-Saharan Africa and Europe.

Under the terms of the contract, Fox will produce one boxing event per month in the US. The first live main event will be for the vacant WBC USNBC Super Featherweight title between Daniel Ponce De León and Eduardo Lazcano on May 4, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Fox Deportes will show live the Mexico-based boxing events. Fox will hold these rights in selected South American territories, the Caribbean and Europe.

The deal includes archive rights from Golden Boy’s fight library.

Golden Boy was founded by former boxer Oscar De La Hoya in 2001. “We are excited about our new partnership with Fox,” De la Hoya said. “This is another step in ensuring that fight fans around the world don’t miss out on any of the great boxing action we present, both in the US and Mexico. It’s a very important move towards increasing viewership and knowledge of our great sport. We are thrilled about this new partnership.”
