Gannett and ViewLift team up for new sports venture

US media and marketing company Gannett has entered into a partnership with video platform ViewLift to explore the development of a new digital sports video service.

The new entity will seek to create a hybrid service harnessing local broadcast television capabilities for the national distribution of digital sports video content.

Gannett said users will be able to access an extensive library of videos about players, teams and other prominent names in US sports.

Gannett will leverage an unnamed affiliate television station group and its editorial and marketing solutions leadership, while ViewLift will provide platform services, proprietary technology, complementary content and operating expertise.

"We are excited by the opportunities this venture provides us to explore new video services that combine traditional over-the-air with OTT distribution and local and national content," Gannett Broadcasting president Dave Lougee said. "Our extensive station footprint, combined with the ViewLift OTT platform, will allow us to pursue a range of new multi-device, multi-pathway opportunities."
