Handball World Championship rights yet to be assigned in key Danish market

Uncertainty remains over the Danish broadcast rights deal for the 2015 Men’s Handball World Championship in Qatar, according to the Mediawatch.dk website.

The International Handball Federation showpiece will run from January 15 to February 1, but a rights deal in the key Danish market has yet to be secured.

Public-service broadcasters DR and TV2 have shared rights to the last two editions of the World Championships, and Mediawatch.dk said they have submitted another joint bid for Qatar 2015.

TV2 sports director Frederik Lauesen said talks are currently being held, but admitted that he had hoped a deal would have been concluded by this time.

Denmark finished as runner-up at the 2013 World Championships in Spain, and the country’s staging of the 2014 European Championship in January, where it again finished as the losing finalist, produced record broadcast ratings in the host country.
