Ligue 1 club set to assume control of regional broadcaster

French Ligue 1 football club Angers SCO is set to conclude a takeover deal for regional broadcaster Angers TV.

Angers TV broadcasts in Angers and Maine-et-Loire via digital terrestrial television, but has been enduring financial difficulties. The AFP news agency said a takeover proposal launched by Angers SCO president Said Chabane has been endorsed by the City of Angers, with an official unveiling of the agreement set for Thursday.

The offer from Angers SCO is said to have been preferred to two others put forward from local media entities.

The City of Angers said in a statement: “We consider that, in accordance with specifications which had been clarified by the authorities, this project is one that is best anchored in the Angevin territory and is likely to aid its influence in the most appropriate manner.”

Angers SCO secured promotion from Ligue 2 last season and currently sits second in the Ligue 1 table, five points behind leader Paris Saint-Germain.
