Olympique de Marseille was the top-earning side from French Ligue 1’s media rights income in 2012-13, according to French newspaper L’Équipe.
Marseille, who finished as runner-up to Paris Saint-Germain in the league, earned €47.79m ($62.13m) from media rights. PSG netted €44.13m and third-placed Olympique Lyonnais claimed €43.95m.
Relegated club Troyes AC, who finished 19th, earned the least, at just €12.9m – about a quarter of Marseille’s income.
Each club in the league was guaranteed at least €9.83m. The remainder was split between the clubs dependent on three variables: where the club finished in the season, where they have finished in the previous five seasons, and the amount of times they were broadcast live.
The total shared between the Ligue 1 clubs was €489.76m. This is to rise slightly in 2013-14, to €491.12m.
In Ligue 2, France’s second division, clubs were guaranteed €2.87m. Champions AS Monaco earned the most in the league, with €5.51m. Third-placed FC Nantes earned €5.43m and second-placed En Avant de Guingamp claimed €5.04m.
The total shared in Ligue 2 was €88.37m. This will rise to €88.47m next season.
