McLaren teams up with YouTube in content drive

The McLaren Group, which includes the McLaren Mercedes Formula One motor-racing team, has announced a new commercial partnership with video-sharing website YouTube.

Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but McLaren said revenue generated from the new commercial channel on YouTube will enable the company to invest in “exciting future video projects”.

McLaren produces a range of video content that is shared on its YouTube channel with the aim of giving motor-racing fans and people interested in cutting edge technology inside access to the heart of the company.

This includes the award winning ‘Tooned’ animated series, which explores McLaren’s F1 operation. The company said the number of subscribers to McLaren’s YouTube channel has increased by 397-per-cent in the last year.

Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren Group chief executive, said: “As a business, this partnership is extremely positive. McLaren and YouTube are both highly respected brands and combining our content with their expertise will help us both to achieve even more.

"Being able to gain revenue from our content will also enable us to invest more in future videos, which will be good for our brand, good for our partners and good for our fans.”
