Major League Baseball has agreed a multi-year deal with Snapchat through which it will expand its association with the social media platform by launching a ‘Snapchat Day’.
MLB has claimed the event on March 11 will be the first of its kind in professional sports with Snapchat Day set to encompass Spring Training ballparks across the league.
The Forbes website said players will be permitted to utilise smartphones, and official ‘SnapBat’ selfie sticks, in dugouts and bullpens during live games held on Snapchat Day.
Following on from this venture, Snapchat will cover MLB games and events, including opening day, the All-Star Game and the postseason. The deal will provide Snapchat with exclusive behind-the-scenes content featuring the game’s top players at ballparks across the US.
The latest agreement comes after Snapchat last year entered into a partnership with MLB Advanced Media, Major League Baseball’s interactive media and internet company, to supply weekly video content to its users.
The agreement with MLBAM was said to be the first time Snapchat had committed to regular programming of this variety.
