Modern Times Group, the multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster, has unveiled a number of management changes, including the promotion of Peter Nørrelund to executive vice-president and chief executive of its sports division, MTG Sport.
Nørrelund, a former editor in chief at Danish public-service broadcaster DR, joined MTG in 2003 and rose to become head of sport in 2013.
He is responsible for MTG’s global sports organisation that acquires rights for online and offline platforms across multiple territories; runs the technical play-out of MTG’s sports channels; and produces the local language commentary and programming around coverage of events including the Olympic Games, football’s Uefa Champions League, English Premier League and Danish Superliga, motor racing championship Formula One, and North American ice hockey and American football leagues the NHL and NFL.
Jørgen Madsen Lindemann, president and chief executive of Modern Times Group, said: “Peter has done a great job building up an unrivalled sports portfolio for our channels and platforms around the world. Not only do we have rights to the top global franchises but also very strong local editorial offerings. This step up in the organisation reflects how central sports is to our consumer product offering.”
