MUTV, the in-house television channel of English Premier League football club Manchester United, has acquired exclusive rights in the UK and Ireland to the Belgian national team’s three warm-up matches ahead of the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
MUTV will broadcast Belgium’s match against Portugal tomorrow (Saturday), along with the games against Egypt on June 6 and Costa Rica on June 11. Highlights for all three matches will also be available on-demand following the games.
Belgium has been drawn alongside England, as well as Panama and Tunisia, in Group G of this year’s tournament in Russia. United stars Romelu Lukaku (pictured) and Marouane Fellaini are both in Belgium’s provisional squad for the World Cup.
The deal for the Belgium matches comes after MUTV acquired rights to the international friendly match between Russia and France, which was held on March 27.
Manchester United’s chief executive of media, Phil Lynch, said: “MUTV’s broadcast of these three important World Cup warm up matches demonstrates the channel’s commitment to bringing world class live football to our fans.
“The acquisition of the live rights to these matches is part of the club’s continued investment into its digital platforms and something we will continue to explore in the future.”
